Hello!
I’m Hannah Schultz…
I am owner, artist, and all things behind Magpie Studio, where it is my goal to spread a little love and happiness through painting and pottery.
My obsessions came on strong in 2022 while searching for new hobbies. After being a sports performance coach through my twenties, a manager and perception researcher through my thirties, heading into my forties I was looking for outlets to spark new parts of my brain. My partner suggested watercolor, and although I was skeptical, he bought me, “15-Minute Watercolor Masterpieces,” by Anna Koliadych to test the waters. As for pottery, a friend suggested “The Great Pottery Showdown” TV show, from which I became inspired to start taking pottery classes. In an instant I became hooked to both activities, buying my own throwing wheel and creating a home art studio. I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who know me better than I know myself, as I have fallen in love so hard I decided to quit my management and research role in 2024 to fully focus on my small business. Cheers, to taking a leap of faith, being open to a new path, and soaking in the journey!
All paintings, pottery, and prints I make by hand, from my home in Snohomish, WA. I value quality over quantity, prioritizing daily practice and deep work to create thoughtful pieces with intention behind every detail.
The name Magpie Studio is a nod to my childhood in which my grandma exposed me to endless arts and crafts. I vividly remember calm, peaceful moments sitting on her porch watching the magpies visit her yard. To this day the sound of a magpie takes me back to those sweet, nostalgic moments. I’m grateful to think of her every time I sit down to get creative.
When not in my studio I enjoy Pacific Northwest adventures with my partner and pup, snuggling with our animal family, tackling house projects, board games, puzzles, and being active through various outlets - running, swimming, hot yoga, climbing, calisthenics, and strength training.
